Dr. Tim Peterman has
performed on steel drums throughout the U.S. and in
England, Germany, Luxembourg, Mexico, Japan and in
the birthplace of the steel drum – Trinidad. He has
performed with the World Champion Steel Orchestra,
the Amoco Renegades, and has studied steel drum
building and tuning with Ellie Mannette, the “Father
of the Modern Steel Drum.”
He received his Doctorate in Percussion Performance
from the University of North Texas, Masters Degree
from Arizona State University, and Bachelors Degree
from California State University, Sacramento. He has
taught percussion at the university level for over
20 years at West Virginia University, Villanova
University, Indiana State University, Southwest
Texas State University and Northern Arizona
University.
Dr. Peterman has studied steel drums in the United
States and Trinidad, African drumming in Ghana, West
Africa, and Taiko drumming in California and Japan.
He has also participated in the Fulbright Teachers
Program to Japan.
His ensembles have performed for the Percussive Arts
Society International Conventions, American
Orff-Schulwerk Association, Music Educators National
Conference, NASA, with the Pittsburgh Symphony, and
for many regional and state conferences. He is
published by Panyard, and Drop 6 Media and is a
clinician for Innovative Percussion.
He is a member of
Coastal Wedding Professionals and the
Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce.
